Dentures (Full and Partial)
George Washington famously wore a set of wooden teeth, and although dentures are one of the longest-standing methods for replacing teeth, modern dentures are thankfully nothing like their historical counterparts.
Modern dentures are made from attractive, natural-looking, and long-lasting materials. Plus, they are custom-designed and manufactured to fit the curves and grooves of each person’s unique mouth comfortably and securely while restoring function and offering a natural look and feel.
If you’re missing all or most of your top row, bottom row, or both rows of teeth, then we encourage you to talk with one of our smile restoration experts at Eastgate Dental Excellence to find out if dentures might be the right teeth replacement option for you.
What Are Full and Partial Dentures?
Full Dentures
Full dentures are designed to replace an entire row or arch of teeth. This is the right type of denture for replacing all or most of either or both arches of teeth.
Full dentures achieve a snug fit by suctioning to your gums. If a more secure fit is desired, you can also always use a special dental cement or adhesive designed for keeping dentures in place.
Partial Dentures
Unlike full dentures, partial dentures only replace a portion of missing teeth. This is the right type of denture if you’re missing a consecutive row of teeth on either side of the top or bottom arches. Partial dentures attach to teeth and are held securely in position using wires and brackets.
Partial dentures are usually recommended for patients who are missing too many teeth to be candidates for replacement with a dental bridge, which can usually only support replacements for two or three missing teeth.
Can Dentures Be Removed?
Yes, both full and partial dentures can be easily removed. They are designed to pop in and out of the mouth. It’s recommended that you remove them at night for gentle cleaning of both your dentures and your gums.
Since they’re easily removed, dentures are exceptionally easy to clean. This also allows the gums to rest at night, simplifies the process of adjusting your fit, and makes it easy to restore or repair damaged dentures.
Non-Traditional Dentures
Traditional full and partial dentures can be removed. However, some types of dentures offer more permanent tooth replacement, such as All-on-4 dentures which are permanently affixed to four strategically placed dental implants.
Additionally, implant-supported dentures offer a bit more stability than traditional dentures but can still be removed by snapping them on and off their implanted support anchors.
